I attended the World of Difference 2012 orientation day today to learn about what other charities are doing, the benefits to charities of social networking and so on. The two big names at the event were TV stylist Gok Wan (ambassador for the World of Difference programme) and Falklands War hero and possibly the most inspirational speaker I have ever heard, Simon Weston. In a session reminiscent of a live episode of The Odd Couple, both men talked passionatly about their causes, their beliefs, and why it can take just one person to change the world for the better.

Charity Auction

The charity auction is still happening, as soon as we find a new venue we will announce the date and start advertising. In the meantime, do you have anything we could use either as a prize or to auction? Or maybe you know a business we could approach? Please send any ideas to katbearpark@antondaysmilefoundation.org and help us make this the best charity auction ever!

Raise money for ADSF by doing your Christmas shopping online!

One of the simplest and most innovative ideas to raise money for charity is through a website called Easy Fundraising. This is a free service that allows people to shop directly at their favourite store through the links on the website and earn a cash back donation to their cause when a purchase is made.

Donated earnings can be anything up to 15%, depending on the retailer and the product that was purchased. There are many stores that are already participating, with leading high street brands such as Amazon, WH Smith, John Lewis, Argos etc., making it one of the most effortless fundraising methods  around.

To begin receiving cash back donations for the Anton Day Smile Foundation, follow these simple steps:

1.       Go to  http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/

2.       Click on “Find a Cause”.

3.       Enter “Anton Day Smile Foundation” in the search box.

4.       Click on “Support” next to the Anton Day Smile Foundation label.

5.       Enter your name and email address in the form.

6.       Once registered, you can either search for a specific retailer or use the “A to Z of Retailers”.

Start shopping online direct with the retailers through the links on the website and wait for the donations to build up. Better yet, some retailers make free donations just for switching to their services, participating in free trails or even simply registering on their website.

This could be extremely effective in the run up to Christmas, and spreading the word would be essential. Please email this link to your friends and encourage them to sign up and pass the info along.

Thanks!

Vanessa update

We all had a great boost today at the news that charity co-founder and lymphoma sufferer Vanessa Day has had good results from her latest scan, which indicated that her tumour has shrunk to around 25% of it’s pre-treatment size.

Fantastic news Ness, we all wish you nothing but the best.

Fundraising updates and local support

Despite necessary medical intervention, Vanessa’s hair shaving went really well and she managed to raise an incredible £1,200! We had a family fun day at the Running Horse this past Saturday which raised a further £426. Fantastic fundraising all round, and a massive boost to our cause- thank you and congratulations to all concerned!

The charity have now applied for Natwest’s Community Force, a vote-based competition set up to support local charities. Voting begins on September 26th, but to view our application, please go to:

Thanks!
